How to play
Ride your ostrich over the lava and joust with the buzzard knights. When two knights meet, the higher lance wins: the loser is thrown and leaves an egg behind. Gather the eggs before they hatch, or a new rider comes to fetch them, and a tougher one. If your lances meet level, you both bounce off.
Arrow keys ride and Up or Space flaps; tap quickly to climb, hold it to glide. A second player rides with A and D and flaps with W. Enter starts a game, 2 starts one for two knights, P pauses, M mutes and F goes full screen. Gamepads work, and on a phone there are buttons on the arena.
Linger too long and a pterodactyl comes hunting: the only way to beat it is a lance in its open beak. From the fourth wave, the lava troll reaches up for anyone flying low over the pits.
About
Tourney is a remake of Williams' 1982 arcade game Joust, written from scratch in Rust and running in your browser as WebAssembly. The rules, speeds and waves follow the original, read from its 6809 source code. The graphics are new, drawn as vector art as you play, and the sound is synthesised, so there isn't a single image or sample file in the game.
